Among the many things the plantCam project is monitoring is plant visits by means of IR sensors. Previous to this, we had really no idea if any pollinators were visiting these rare Cyaneas after so many native bird pollinators were lost. To our very pleasant surprise, soon after the plant went into full bloom, it was receiving lots of visitors nearly everyday! Most are Amakihi, but perhaps we will catch a glimpse of the fabled Iiwi last seen around here in 2016! Here are some of the exciting images captured!
PlantCam is a real-time endangered plant monitoring station up in the Waianae (honouliuli) where we are monitoring, among other plants, a critically endangered Cyanea calycina (www.plantcam.live).
