An ʻApapane visits!


We spotted an ʻApapane bird on top of one of the Ohia trees on top of our ridge. These birds are beautiful up close and are part of one of 3 species of native Hawaiian forest birds that have survived in Oahu. All of these 3 species (Apapane, Amakihi, Elepaio) are present where Caly lives.

Many other incredible forest birds inhabited Oahu, but are now gone, like the Oahu Akialoa

Thankfully, other beautiful and unique forest birds exist in Hawaii, but need our protection, such as the ʻAkohekohe:
